When Tayo reached out to me to write this, I laughed. It took me a while to start because honestly, what’s life after uni even like?
It’s the same way every holiday has ever felt, just that this time, you know deep down that you’re not going back to school.
For someone like me, it’s even realer because my sister has been prepping for resumption in every way she can. Waiting on UMIS and its constant glitches, discussing room arrangements with her friends, and disturbing everybody to clear her Temu cart.
While me, on the other hand, since my convocation in July, I’ve been in a routine: wake up, eat, use my phone, sleep, watch a movie or two and go to the gym. Occasionally, I’ve popped out to see a friend or two, but that’s about it. Life after school isn’t terrible, but it’s weird. Many of us don’t have shit figured out yet, so we’re stuck in this repeated cycle of inactivity. It’s good for a while, the freedom, the lack of pressure, having absolutely nowhere to be. But after some time, it can get tiring.
I actually like life after uni better than being in school, but I miss some of my friends terribly. Recently, I’ve been upskilling because opportunities meet only the prepared. Oh, and there’s also the chance of doing NYSC soon, getting a job and figuring out all those other things that come with actually entering the real world.
Honestly, I’m excited to see what the next few months are like. The experience of school was really nice, and I think living in the moment is important because eventually, it all comes to a permanent end.
And I guess that’s why it’s important to enjoy it while you’re there.
